Ashwin-Jadeja’s shoes will be big ones to fill: Rohit Sharma | Cricket News – Times of India
The spinning duo shared the player-of the series award after accounting for 47 wickets between them. India captain Rohit Sharma said he hoped Ashwin and Jadeja will be around when Australia come back next in 2027.
“For the sake of Indian cricket, I hope they stay and play for a long time,” Sharma said. Ashwin is 36 and Jadeja 34. They will be 40 and 38 respectively in 2027. The pair have been a nemesis for every touring team and the Australian batsmen have fallen prey to their guile more than anyone else.
The 36-year-old Ashwin has picked 114 out of his 474 Test wickets against Australia while the 34-year-old Jadeja has scalped 85 of his 264 wickets against them.
“Both of them are marathon performers for us. They know exactly how to get the job done, especially in this part of the world. You give them the ball, they’ll give you those breakthroughs. With the bat, they get you crucial runs. They are important players for us. A large part of our success belongs to those two guys. Obviously, it’s not just for a period of few years, but it is for a decade. Those shoes will be big ones to fill.” Sharma said.
