# After 75 years, England (325 & 327) have lost a home Test (by 43 runs) despite scoring 300-plus in each innings of a Test match – the last instance being the 1948 Leeds Test against Australia (458 & 404 for three) which they lost by seven wickets. England had managed 496 and 368 for eight declared in that match.
# Having hit three sixes off successive balls off Keshav Maharaj (S.Africa) at The Oval in 2017, Ben Stokes has now become the first batter in the history of Test Cricket to accomplish the feat of a hat-trick of sixes twice. During his 155, he was on 82 when he hit three sixes off Cameron Green to reach his hundred in the just concluded Lord’s Test.

# Ben Stokes’ second hundred as captain is his 13th in Tests. His tally includes four against Australia. His only other Test century as captain remains 103 vs South Africa at Manchester in 2022. He has recorded his highest score vs Australia (155), obliterating the 135 not out at Leeds in 2019.
# Stokes’ outstanding innings is the highest by a number six batter or lower while chasing in the fourth innings in Tests, bettering Adam Gilchrist’s 149 not out vs Pakistan at Hobart in November 1999.

# Stokes has recorded 118 sixes in 94 Tests, extending his Test record. The next highest is New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum – 107 in 101 Tests.
# During his fantastic knock of 155, Stokes hit nine sixes – a record by an England captain in Tests. His tally is the highest by any captain in the fourth innings of a Test match.
# Stokes has set a new record for most sixes in an innings in Ashes Tests. He bettered his record of hitting eight sixes during his match-winning unbeaten knock of 135 at Leeds in 2019.
# Steven Smith took 99 Tests to become the first batter to complete 9,000 runs within the first 100 Tests of career. He has become the fourth Australian batter after Ricky Ponting (13378), Allan Border (11174) and Steve Waugh (10927) to complete 9000 runs or more in Tests.

# Steven Smith has registered 32 hundreds in Tests – the joint-second highest for Australia. Only Ricky Ponting has registered more hundreds (41 in 168 Tests). Steve Waugh posted 32 hundreds in 168 Tests.
# Steven Smith has received his 13th Man of the Match award in Tests – his eighth vs England. He holds the record for getting most MOM awards in The Ashes. The second place is shared by three players with five awards each – Ian Botham, Ricky Ponting and Shane Warne.

# Mitchell Starc has bagged 316 wickets at 27.64 runs apiece in 79 Tests, establishing a record for most wickets by a left-arm bowler for Australia in Tests, eclipsing Mitchell Johnson’s tally of 313 at 28.40 in 73 Tests. Starc’s tally includes 13 instances of five-wicket hauls and two instances of ten wickets or more in a match.
# Ben Duckett (98 & 83) became the eighth England opener after Herbert Sutcliffe twice), Geoff Boycott (twice), Arthur Shrewsbury, Albert Ward, Len Hutton, Graham Gooch & Mike Atherton to post 75-plus in each innings of a Test match vs Australia.
# Nathan Lyon has played 100 successive Tests between August 2013 and June 2023 to become the first specialist bowler and the sixth player to accomplish the feat for a team in Test annals. He has joined Alastair Cook (159), Allan Border (153), Mark Waugh (107), Sunil Gavaskar (106) and Brendon McCullum (101).

# Usman Khawaja has become the first batter to complete 300 runs (ave 75.00), including a hundred and two fifties, in four innings, at a strike rate of 8.70 in the first two Tests of the Ashes series.
# Khawaja, with 841 runs at an average of 64.69, including three hundreds and four fifties, in eight matches, is the top run-scorer in Tests this year – 205 runs more than the next highest – 636 (ave 53.00) in seven Tests by Travis Head.
# Stuart Broad has performed exceptionally well this year, capturing 27 Wickets at an average of 24.81 in five Tests to become the first speedster to take 25 wickets or more in Tests. The top four wicket-takers in Tests in 2023 are Nathan Lyon(38 in eight Tests), Broad (27 in five), Ravindra Jadeja (26 in five) and Ravichandran Ashwin (25 in four).
