New Zealand has seen silver today, with a medal in the women’s double sculls rowing and the All Black Sevens losing to Fiji this evening.
A dominant Fiji won the rugby sevens final 27-12 this evening, after leading 19-12 at halftime. New Zealand still claim the silver, after coming in fifth at the last games in Rio.
Earlier, Brooke Donoghue and Hannah Osborne won silver in Women’s double sculls rowing to give New Zealand its second medal of the Tokyo Olympics.
New Zealand is now 34th on the medal table.
In other news, Simone Biles, four-times Olympic gold medallist in gymnastics, is to pull out of tomorrow’s individual all-around competition citing mental health issues. The “all-around” competition is a single day event comprising vault, beam, floor and uneven bars. It is unclear whether Biles will compete in the individual events starting in a few days time.
Meanwhile, the Women’s coxless pair rowers Grace Prendergrast and Kerri Gowler will advance to the finals after winning their semifinal with a world best time. The pair won their semifinal convincingly finishing with a time of 6:47:41 to beat out the Russian Olympic Committee and Spain to go into the final with the fastest qualifying time.
