Army Research & Referral Hospital partners with Wolters Kluwer to implement the Clinical Decision Support System

New Delhi: Army Research & Referral Hospital in Dhaula Kuan, has implemented the Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) provided by Wolters Kluwer to ramp up patient care delivery. The hospital established a computer kiosk in the emergency room to assist the on-duty doctors for usage of Wolters Kluwer’s product, UpToDate, at the point of care.

The Commandant, Lt Gen Ashok Kumar Jindal, AVSM, YSM, recently officially inaugurated a computer kiosk in the MI room. This adoption aims to equip doctors, students, nurses, and other healthcare providers with readily available evidence-based case studies and the latest medical information from around the world to aid their medical decisions.

According to Lt Gen Ashok Kumar Jindal, Commandant, R & R Hospital, with this adoption, we saw an opportunity to enhance our patient care. He adds, “By incorporating the most recent research and best practice advice from international experts, CDSS tools produce evidence-based care that is significantly faster and more dependable than spending hours on online searches for information that is usually unverified. Clinicians can utilise CDSS as a tool to add value to their own expertise and knowledge in order to make accurate medical decisions and lower the chances of medical errors.”

Speaking on this new development, Harish Ramachandran, Country Head – India and SAARC, for the Clinical Effectiveness division, Wolters Kluwer, said, “It is a novel initiative of using UpToDate from a computer kiosk that has been installed in the emergency department for accessing the CDSS tool at the point of care. It will be beneficial for the caregivers to enhance their clinical productivity, reduce medication errors, improve the quality of healthcare, and manage patients better at critical times.”

The deployment of UpToDate at R & R hospital aims to give impetus to digital solutions that can change the healthcare delivery ecosystem. As per Maj Gen Ajith Nilakantan, Deputy Commandant, R & R Hospital, “over the last few years, one of the biggest trends in healthcare is to leverage technology to enhance the healthcare infrastructure and provide improved treatment to each patient. With the usage of technologies like CDSS, R & R Hospital would be able to practice evidence-based medicine with enhanced ease, which will help deliver high-quality care to every patient.”
