AR Rahman said he has been in a similar situation as he reacted to an old video of Sting listening to Jose Feliciano ‘murdering’ his song. In the throwback clip, Sting was serenaded with a version of Every Breath You Take, sung by Puerto Rican-born guitarist and singer Jose Monserrate. Reacting to his tweet, Twitter users wanted to know who ‘murdered’ AR Rahman’s songs. Also read: AR Rahman breaks silence after Pune police stopped his show midway, shares clip of cop on stage

AR Rahman tweets old video of Sting watching his song ‘getting murdered’ at an event.

On Wednesday, AR Rahman took to Twitter to post the video, and tweeted, “I’ve been there (heart eye emoji).” The clip was originally shared along with a tweet that read, “Sting watching his song getting murdered live on stage.” In the video, singer-musician Sting can be seen listening to Jose Feliciano, while attending the Polar Music Prize in 2017.

In the old clip that is now being shared widely on Twitter, Sting does everything he can to be polite, unaware that the camera is pointing at him, but there are some flashes of irritation visible on his face. Reacting to AR Rahman’s tweet about the clip, some on Twitter wondered whom the singer-musician was hinting at as he said he’s ‘been there’ too. A person tweeted, “Guess which ones? I feel too many? Badshah with Humma Humma?” One more said, “Masakali remix.”

A new version of AR Rahman’s hit track Humma Humma from the 1995 Mani Ratnam film Bombay was sung by Badshah. It featured in the 2016 film OK Jaanu co-starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. A few years later, the hit track Masakali from Delhi 6 (2009), which was originally composed by AR Rahman and sung by Mohit Chauhan with lyrics by Prasoon Joshi, was also remixed and released as Masakali 2.0. In 2020, the composer had taken to social media to express his displeasure with the T-Series music video featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria.

Hours after the music video was released, AR Rahman had shared his original song on Twitter with the note: “No short cuts, properly commissioned, sleepless nights, writes and re-writes. Over 200 musicians, 365 days of creative brainstorming with the aim to produce music that can last generations. A team of a Director, a Composer and a Lyricist supported by actors, dance directors and a relentless film crew. Lots of love and prayers, AR Rahman.”

AR Rahman has been promoting his latest film Ponniyin Selvan: II along with the film’s cast and director Mani Ratnam. The film was released on April 28. AR Rahman was recently in news after his concert in Pune was stopped midway by police.
