Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Air sees “weaker than expected” demand – Times of India

Apple’s supply chain sources have reported that the initial customer demand for the new 15-inch MacBook Air has been weaker than anticipated. A recent DigiTimes report indicates that the MacBook Air shipment volume in July was 50% less than the original estimation due to a downturn in the notebook market.
Apple launched the 15-inch MacBook Air at the WWDC last month. The starting price for this model is $1,299 (Rs 1,34,900). The design and M2 chip of the 15-inch model are the same as the 13-inch model, but the 15-inch model has a larger display and two extra speakers.

Industry insiders say that the demand for the 15-inch MacBook Air has decreased. The report also mentions that certain customers are requesting a reduction in shipment volume to prevent excessive inventory accumulation.
Apple is experiencing a decline in laptop sales, similar to the rest of the industry. According to DigiTimes research, Apple’s shipments in 2023 are expected to decrease by almost 15% compared to 2022, reaching 19.9 million units. This decline is even steeper than the overall laptop market’s drop of 13.2%.
According to the report, the supply chain for MacBook can expect an announcement about a new MacBook Pro in the near future. However, no further information was provided.
Rumours have been rife about Apple’s plan to launch a new 13-inch MacBook Pro featuring an M3 chip later this year. The M3 chip is expected to be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process, which is anticipated to improve performance and power efficiency by a substantial margin compared to the 5nm M2 chip currently in use in the existing 13-inch MacBook Pro.pcs
