Apple to reportedly discontinue its services for older devices – Times of India

0

Apple is known for offering long-term support whether it is in terms of hardware or software. The company usually keeps its old services alive for devices that run on older generations of operating systems. It appears that’s about to change soon. StellaFudge, a known tipster, has reported that Apple is planning to discontinue some of its services for older software.
Apple to shut down services for iOS 11 operating system
According to the report, Apple is expected to strip off the iOS 11, macOS High Sierra, watchOS 4 and tvOS 11 operating systems with all its services, except iCloud. That means, devices running iOS 11 macOS High Sierra, watchOS 4 and tvOS 11 operating systems will lose support for all the services that Apple offers.
The tipster has mentioned that users with the devices running above-mentioned operating systems will be notified for the upcoming change and also to update their devices to the one that still has support for Apple services.
In fact, Apple recently published a support article last month that mentions “older software versions will no longer support Apple Services like the App Store, Siri, and Maps.”
There’s no explanation provided by Apple or any other sources behind this upcoming change. Currently, older Apple devices can use some services like iMessage, FaceTIme, etc.
However, this isn’t a new idea, WhatsApp removes the older devices every year from the supported device list. Similarly, there are other apps and services that keep removing support from older versions of the operating systems. So, Apple doing the same thing should come as a surprise.
Meanwhile, Apple has started rolling out iOS 16.5 beta to developers and it brings several new features like Sports tab in Apple News, Screen recording capabilities to Siri and more.
