Apple may launch a cheaper Amazon Fire TV stick rival – Times of India

The Apple TV (4K) is a powerful and impressive streaming box. More so, if you are deeply invested in the Apple ecosystem. However, it still remains quite niche in India as Amazon Fire TV stick dominates the market. One of the reasons why buyers might be staying away from the Apple TV (4K) is its price — starts at Rs 18,990. However, if a new report is to be believed then Apple is working on a cheaper alternative.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, which cites noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a cheaper alternative to the Apple TV (4K) could be in the works. Kuo in a note said that the device is expected to launch in second half of 2022 as Apple wants to “improve cost structure.”
He further added that “Apple’s aggressive strategy of integrating hardware, content, and service amid the recession will help close the gap with its competitors.”
Earlier, Bloomberg had reported that Apple is also working on a different variant of the Apple TV. The report by Bloomberg suggested that the new Apple TV set-top-box would also integrate a smart speaker and have camera capabilities as well. Bloomberg report stated that “such a device would combine an iPad with a HomePod speaker and also include a camera for video chat.” If this product does launch then it would be quite similar to the Amazon Echo Show devices.
The cheaper Apple TV could give Apple a boost in the streaming box/stick space. Apple has always maintained that the processor in Apple TV is the fastest around, which makes streaming content as well as playing games better. Not to forget, the Apple TV makes it quite seamless to connect with other Apple devices as well.
