Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 14 series later this year. The lineup will succeed the iPhone 13 series that was launched by the company last year. Although Apple is not known to reveal any information about its upcoming products, several specifications of the upcoming iPhone have already been leaked online. As per a latest report, the tech giant may add a new emergency messaging feature with the iPhone 14. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple iPhone 14 users may be able to connect to satellite networks under emergency situations in remote areas.
According to the report, the device will offer an “Emergency message via Contacts” option that will allow users to share a short message when there is no cellular service available. Previously the feature was rumoured to debut with the iPhone 13 series.
Just like last two years, Apple flagship smartphone series is rumoured to consist of four models – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. It is not yet known whether the emergency messaging feature will be limited to Pro models or not. As revealed in previous reports, the satellite connectivity feature wouldn’t be for activities such as browsing the web or streaming video.
Apple is also reportedly planning to roll out a similar feature for its smartwatch. According to the report, the tech giant will bring the satellite connectivity features for Apple Watch along with support for emergency texting and SOS response. The company is currently gearing up to take the wraps off the next-generation operating systems for its devices at WWDC 2022. The event is scheduled for June 6.
