Apple iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 11 discontinued in India after iPhone 14 launch
- iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 11 are not available for sale now.
- Apple has also dropped the mini version completely from its portfolio.
- iPhone 14 series comes with a Plus model instead of the mini.
Apple has discontinued four of its older iPhone models after it unveiled the new iPhone 14 generation globally, last night. While the new lineup brings the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, the company has now discontinued the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 11 in various markets — including India. This does not come as a surprise, since Apple typically follows a norm of discontinuing its older generation Pro models, keeping only the latest generation ‘Pro’ iPhones in its lineup instead.
iPhone 14 series replaces older devices: prices in India
The latest generation iPhone 14 comes to India at ₹79,900 — the same price as that of the iPhone 13 at launch time. However, this also marks the entry point of the new iPhone series in the country right now, which previously started at ₹69,900 with the iPhone 13 mini. Instead, the iPhone 14 Plus, which has been added to the lineup in place of the small-screen iPhone, now costs ₹89,900 for its base 128GB variant.
The iPhone 14 Pro lineup is now more expensive than the earlier Pro lineups, starting at ₹1,29,900 for the 128GB storage variant. Preorders of all devices begin on September 9th, and while the iPhone 14, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will start shipping from September 16th, the 14 Plus will sell from October 7th in India.
Among older generation iPhones that remain on sale, the iPhone 13 mini starts at ₹64,900, while the iPhone 13 costs ₹69,900 in India. The iPhone 12 also remains available on sale, and starts at ₹59,900 in India with 64GB base storage. Finally, the 2022 iPhone SE starts at ₹49,900 for its base 64GB storage.
New features
The iPhone 14 series is an iterative upgrade from the base iPhone 13, and runs on the same A15 Bionic SoC from last year. New features include a more powerful gyroscope to enable Apple’s new ‘crash detection’ feature, a 12MP main camera with larger f/1.5 aperture lens, autofocus on the front camera for the first time, and emergency satellite connectivity as well.
The iPhone 14 Pro series, meanwhile, comes with a new, pill-shaped notch design that also brings a new interface — Dynamic Island. The latter configures around the pill notch based on the app that is open, in a bid to add more use cases to the screen design. The Pro iPhones also get an Always-on display with a new interface design, Apple’s crash detection and emergency satellite connectivity, the A16 Bionic chip, and a new 48MP main camera as part of its triple rear cameras — among other features.
