Apple Dual USB-C Port 35W charger leaks; Could launch in 2022 | Digit

The components of the Apple 35W dual USB-C adapter are said to be nearing mass production for a 2022 launch.

Apple is working on a dual USB-C port 35W power adapter, as per a new leak on the Apple website itself. This was first spotted by 9to5Mac who took screenshots of the said 35W Apple charger’s support documents from the site before it was taken down. Thanks to this swift action, we now have some hints of what to expect from this forthcoming Apple charger.

Let’s have a look.

Apple 35W dual USB-C GaN charger leak

This wouldn’t be the first Apple GaN (gallium nitride) charger as there’s already a 140W GaN USB-C charger from the brand on the market. This wouldn’t be the first Apple USB-C charger either. What makes this first of its kind would be the fact that it is a dual USB-C GaN adapter from the brand.

This could be used to fast charge any combination of two Apple products including iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, MacBooks, etc.

As for the supported power specs, here are they:

  • Input: 100–240V /1.0A
  • Output 1 or 2 (USB PD): 5VDC/3A or 9VDC/3A or 15VDC/2.33A or 20VDC/1.75A

The latter could mean that the charger might top up two devices at 15 watts or one at 27W and the other at 5W. But, we can’t be sure about the likely combinations.

Further from the leaked Apple support document, 9to5Mac also shares this extract:

“Use the Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter and a USB-C cable (not included) to charge your device. Connect a USB-C cable to either port on the power adapter, extend the electrical prongs (if necessary), then plug the power adapter firmly into the power outlet. Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible for disconnecting. Connect the other end of the cable to your device.”

So, this tells us that there won’t be a USB-C cable with this Apple dual USB-C charger. Bummer!

Anyways, reputed leakster Ming-Chi Kuo recently reported that the components for this Apple power adapter are getting closer to mass production and that his year the company is estimated to ship around 2-3 million units of it.
