Apple and Facebook solve WhatsApp’s biggest ‘problem’: All the details – Times of India

0
One of the big issues for those who want to switch from Android to iPhone has been with WhatsApp chats. If you were moving from Android to iPhone, then you had no choice but to forget about those WhatsApp chats. Not anymore as starting today, Apple is adding the support of WhatsApp chat transfers for those moving from Android to iOS.

How will the feature work?

Switchers are those who — Apple calls them that — want to move from Android to iPhone. Apple has an app called Move to iOS, which facilitates the transfer of data from Android phones to iPhones. What the app lacked — till now — was the ability to move WhatsApp chats. However, starting today — WhatsApp beta users — will be able to move their WhatsApp chats from Android to iOS. Earlier, users could transfer contacts, messages, calendar but not WhatsApp.

When will the feature be available?

The beta has started rolling out but it’s a gradual process and will take about a week to get to all users, WhatsApp confirmed to The Times of India-GadgetsNow.
“We’re adding to WhatsApp the ability to securely switch between phones and transfer your chat history, photos, videos, and voice messages between Android and iPhone while maintaining end-to-end encryption. This is a top requested feature. We launched the ability switch from iPhone–>Android last year, and now adding Android–>iPhone as well,” said Mark Zuckerberg, founder & CEO, Meta.

What versions of iOS and Android support the WhatsApp transfer?

You will need an Android phone running Lollipop, SDK 21 or above and iOS 15.5 or above installed on your iPhone. You must have the Move to iOS app installed on your Android phone and WhatsApp iOS version 2.22.10.70 or above on your new device.
What other details to keep in mind?
Further, WhatsApp Android version 2.22.7.74 or above should be on your old device. You must use the same phone number as your old phone on your new device. Your iPhone must be factory new or reset to factory settings to pair with the Move to iOS app and move data from your Android phone. Both of your devices must be connected to a power source as well as they need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network or you’ll need to connect your Android device to your iPhone’s hotspot.
Do keep in mind that your WhatsApp call history can’t be transferred from an Android phone to an iPhone.
