Anushka Sen: Being a social media influencer helped me break the child actor tag
Anushka Sen has been in the entertainment industry since she was six years old. The actor, who is now 19, says she is delighted to have progressed from being a child actor to a social media influencer to an artist exploring the web and film space.
Sen has starred in TV shows such as Yahaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli, Jhansi Ki Rani, Baalveer and web seriessuch as Crashh and Swaanng.
Talking about the tag of a child actor and how people sometimes refuse to see them beyond their image of a child actor, Sen, who has over 33 million followers on Instagram, tells us, “As soon as I became an influencer five or 6 years back, people started recognising me as Anushka Sen. Thanks to social media that people got to know the real me, the real Anushka Sen. I don’t think people just see me as a child actor. Being a social media influencer helped me break the child actor tag.”
But was the transition a difficult one? “No, it was beautiful for me,” she replies.
“I didn’t realise when the transition happened because I was always working. I continued to work, never had a break. From TV shows to art films to now web shows, it was smooth. I just went with the flow,” adds the actor.
Growing up in front of the camera and in the public eye can be tough, but Sen admits that for her it was quite fun.
“I have been on sets more than I have been at my own house or school or anywhere. I have grown up on sets and I have grown up with people on sets. When it started off I was very confused. But as they say when you are destined to do something you just know it. And you start feeling like this is what I was born for,” she says.
The actor, who is currently in her second year of college, and is studying filmmaking, adds that her experience as a child actor has taught her to retain a sense of balance.
“Growing up, managing my career and personal life was difficult because if one goes wrong, the whole thing could get derailed. And then it can be a big loss. I am blessed with a beautiful team, my parents, who made sure that I don’t miss out on my childhood things like going to school, going out with friends, travel with family and also have my me time,” she ends.
