Anurag Kashyap reveals Shah Rukh Khan advised him to ‘not be on Twitter’: Unko lagta hai ki mera kuch nahi ho sakta
Anurag Kashyap opened up about the advice Shah Rukh Khan gave him in a recent interview. The filmmaker said, Shah Rukh, who is his senior from Hansraj College, Delhi, told him ‘why he should not say somethings’, and even asked him to ‘not be on Twitter’. A few years ago, amid the clash between students and police at Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, over the Citizenship Amendment Act, Anurag had taken a break from Twitter. In his recent interview, Anurag said Shah Rukh was ‘like a big brother’, who keeps telling him ‘what he must not do’. He also said that the actor has ‘given up on him’. Anurag Kashyap, who has been praising Shah Rukh’s Pathaan in recent interviews and on social media, further said the actor thinks he ‘does not understand things’.
“Woh to mere college ke senior hain. Unka phone ata hai toh main phone attend karne ke liye khada ho jata hoon (Shah Rukh is my senior from college, I stand up and take his call, whenever he calls me)… He has given up on me. Unko lagta hai ki mujhe kuch samajh nahi ayega, mera kuch nahi ho sakta (Shah Rukh thinks I do not understand things). He is like a big brother, who keeps telling me what I must not do. He told me why I should not say somethings, why should I not be on Twitter,” Anurag said in an interview to Unfiltered By Samdish.
Further speaking about his association with Shah Rukh, and why he has avoided working with the actor on a project, Anurag said, “Mere ko har cheeze ke bare mein bola unhone, filmein bhi. Pehle Asoka ayi thi mere paas likne ke liye. Unke bohut sare aese projects ate then, par main tabhi se thoda avoid karta tha. Woh Shah Rukh Khan hai, unka ek stardom hai, ek worldview hai. Main jaisi film banana chahta hoon, mujhe wahi banana hai. It is not just him, everybody, who cares about me, wants me to see life the way they see it. Aap bole na saving nahi karte ho, practical kyun nahi hote ho, everything that a normal person should do or must do in the eyes of the world, woh (Shah Rukh) bhi waise hai, sab waise hai. Mujhe waise jena hi nahi hai (Shah Rukh has given me advice on many things, A lot of his films were first offered to me as a write, including Asoka. But I have always avoided them as Shah Rukh has a worldview, stardom, and I cannot make films that do him justice. I want to make films my way. Like others, who care for me and want me to save money or become more practical, Shah Rukh, too, has tried, but I want to live my life my way)…”
In an earlier interview, Anurag had said that today there is a ‘kranti (revolution) happening in Indian cinema halls’ thanks to Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which has broken many box office records since it was released on January 25. In a recent chat with RJ Stutee on Hindustan Times’ celebrity talk show Aur Batao, Anurag had said the audience had stormed theatres to watch Pathaan, which was released after facing ban and boycott calls.
