There is good news and slightly worse news. The good news is that you can finally experience the 5G network on Google Pixel phones in India, and the bad news is that you need to install the Android 13 beta for that.
Google recently released the second beta of Android 13 QPR (Quarterly Platform Release). The beta update adds support for Airtel and Jio 5G on Google Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro.
Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series available 5G bands in India
The Pixel 6a, the most affordable smartphone of Google in India, comes with support for 19 5G bands in India. Meanwhile, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, the latest flagship smartphone from Google in India, supports 22 5G bands.
This is still a beta update, so not everyone can experience 5G on their Pixel smartphones in India. Google is expected to release the Android 13 QPR in March this year.
However, note that installing the beta build will wipe all the data on your smartphone. You will lose the data if you plan to roll back to a stable build, and you will have to wait until the stable update comes out until March.
Android 13 QPR2 beta 2 comes with the new Unicode 15.0, adding 21 new emojis and a new Google Home icon in the device controls. The QPR beta 2 fixes a few bugs related to System UI and camera app. Furthermore, the latest beta build includes an option to force themed icons for all the apps.
There are noted issues with the Android 13 QPR beta 2 build. Installing the beta update can crash System UI, Settings app may also crash during picture-in-picture mode. So, it is advised not to install the update on your primary smartphone.
