Never judge a book by its cover, as Indian billionaire businessman Anand Mahindra learnt very recently.
Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group who’s an active user of Twitter, recently shared a video of a child performing Kalaripayattu—an ancient martial art form from what is now modern-day Kerala that uses a long stick as the primary prop.
Anand Mahindra said in his tweet: “WARNING: Do NOT get in this young woman’s way! And Kalaripayattu needs to be given a significantly greater share of the limelight in our sporting priorities. This can—and will— catch the world’s attention”.
The “young woman” turned out to be a 10-year-old boy who goes by the handle “Prince of Kalaripayattu”. The child thanked Mahindra for his praise but corrected the assumption to say he was a boy who was wearing his hair long for a short film on the martial art form.
“Thanks a lot for your support and encouragement sir! A small correction—I am not a girl, I am a 10 year old boy. I am growing my hair long for a role in a planned short movie on Kalaripayattu,” the child’s tweet said.
