Who lives here
Interiors consultant Mark Cavanagh and his partner, writer and historian Warren Fahey.

What we did
“It surprises many that this is a total rebuild, completed more than 20 years ago,” says Mark. “A lot of people assume that this is the original layout, which in some ways suggests this is how it should always have been.”

Favourite room
“The enclosed terrace which overlooks Elizabeth Bay House and Sydney Harbour. Simple tricks, like the deciduous Boston ivy vine that trails right across the ceiling and a heated marble floor, mean we can enjoy an alfresco vibe all year.”

The ‘hood
“Living in Sydney’s ‘pocket Manhattan’ means top cafes, dining options aplenty, myriad speciality stores, plus the best essentials.”

“The sitting room gets lots of use,” says Mark. “Warren and I are both avid readers. He takes one sofa and I take the other.” The large artwork is by Ildiko Kovacs.
