Amex GBT to Add Chooose Carbon Calculations to Booking Tool

0

American Express Global Business Travel is integrating carbon emissions calculations from climate reporting platform Chooose across its booking and reporting tools, the travel management company announced.

Chooose’s calculations will replace Amex GBT’s current carbon calculation mechanisms in its Neo booking tool. The calculations also will be available in the TMC’s reporting tools, with the capability to analyze carbon footprints for trips booked since 2019.

Amex GBT said partnering with Chooose improves the precision and consistency of its carbon data with “industry-accepted air emissions methodologies.” It will be in addition to Amex GBT’s integration with such data sources as the International Air Transport Association’s CO2 Connect carbon calculator, which together enable clients to factor in criteria including distance, fuel burn, occupancy, cabin class and cargo in carbon estimates. Travel managers can select their preferred methodology and apply it across their booking tool, app and itinerary tools, according to the TMC.

“Flights are the single largest contributor to business travel emissions, so our first priority is helping clients keep up with evolving standards for calculating aviation emissions,” Amex GBT VP of product strategy and user experience Mark McSpadden said in a statement. “We are integrating solutions that give clients more choice, enhance our tools with more granular CO2 calculations, and allow us to serve up robust, consistent CO2 data across our suite of booking, tracking and reporting tools.”

Amex GBT also will use Chooose data in its meetings and events solutions, and Egencia will integrate some of the calculations into its platform.

Additionally, the TMC said Chooose will play a key role as it builds carbon compensation solutions integrated into booking and reporting tools, including access to entities that provide carbon offsets and emerging decarbonization technology. Amex GBT plans to add emissions data for segments beyond flights—including rail, car and hotel—as well.

Chooose, which works with airlines, online travel agencies and other providers to build customer-facing climate programs, last week announced it had raised $15 million in its most recent fundraising round.
