Ambati Rayudu announces retirement from IPL | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Ambati Rayudu, the former India ODI specialist and regular player for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), made an announcement on Sunday that the IPL 2023 final against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad would mark his final game in the cash-rich league.
Rayudu, who had previously retired from international cricket after being overlooked for the 2019 World Cup in England, had also announced his retirement from domestic cricket a couple of years ago but later reversed his decision.
However, in a recent tweet, the 38-year-old cricketer from Hyderabad stated that there would be no U-turn this time. Rayudu, who has scored 139 runs in 15 matches this season, has decided to bid farewell to the IPL after the final.
“2 great teams mi nd csk, 204 matches, 14 seasons, 11 playoffs, 8 finals, 5 trophies. hopefully 6th tonight. It’s been quite a journey. I have decided that tonight’s final is going to be my last game in the Ipl. i truly hav enjoyed playing this great tournament. Thank u all. No u turn,” Rayudu tweeted.

This announcement brings an end to Rayudu’s journey in the IPL, and he leaves behind a commendable record and contributions to his team. Fans will remember his notable performances and his time spent representing the two great teams Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
During his tenure in international cricket, Rayudu played 55 one-day internationals (ODIs) for India, amassing 1694 runs, which included three centuries and 10 fifties. His impressive batting average stood at over 47.

While he made a significant impact in T20 cricket, particularly as a vital member of the CSK for nearly a decade, Rayudu’s contributions in the IPL deserve special mention.

Prior to the final game, he had participated in 203 IPL matches, scoring 4329 runs at a strike-rate of 127. His performances included 22 half-centuries and a solitary century. Notably, his standout season was in 2018, where he accumulated 602 runs for CSK.
It is understood that Rayudu will have the freedom to participate in various franchise leagues and veterans’ T20 tournaments once he retires from the Indian domestic scene, allowing him to continue showcasing his skills and experience in different cricketing platforms.
