Amazon’s Fire TV moves up a gear with a new way to stream content
Amazon’s Fire TV is about to make long journeys along the motorway a whole lot more enjoyable. That’s all thanks to the streaming platform joining forces with BMW to bring a blockbuster movie experience to the back seats of its latest luxury cars. The new 7 Series, which also now includes the all-electric i7, can be fitted with a giant 31-inch 8K screen that is powered by Fire TV.
Those lucky enough to be relaxing in the rear can tap a Theatre Mode button on the iPhone-style screen that’s tucked inside the door to turn this vehicle into a moving cinema.
Blinds even automatically pop up to set the mood and the display gently lowers from the roof ready for the movie binge.
To help make sure the on-screen action stays fully stutter-free, the car is even connected to the latest 5G mobile data speeds.
Thanks to the adoption of the Fire TV software, there’s full access to all the most popular streaming apps and being an Amazon-powered device, there’s access to voice controls via Alexa with users able to say simple commands to find content and pause what they are watching.
REVIEW: BMW i7 is fabulous to drive but passengers get all the fun in this luxury EV
To finish off the experience, sound is boomed into the cabin via speakers that have been made by the British audio team at Bowers and Wilkins.
Speaking about the update, Amazon said: “Since we first introduced Fire TV our mission has been simple: to be the go-to destination for all things entertainment for our global customers. We remain as motivated as ever and continue to deliver entertainment experiences that merge our content-forward interface and the power of Alexa.”
The new BMW 7 Series will begin rolling out on roads later this month and the i7 is certainly the most exciting in the range.
This fully battery-powered vehicle can race from 0-62 in under five seconds and keep going for over 350 miles on one charge.
It also features technology such as fully automated driving, rear seats that recline and even a Sky Lounge panoramic sunroof that features colour-changing LED lights that run through the glass.
The seats can be heated and cooled plus there’s a massage function making sure you arrive at your destination feeling fully pampered. You don’t even need to open the doors yourself when it’s time to get out with a simple tap on a button doing all that for you.
Those lucky enough to be driven in the i7 will feel pampered like a prince but with a starting price of over £100,000, that’s exactly what owners will be expecting.
