Alexa: Amitabh Bachchan makes an ‘exit’ from Amazon Alexa devices, here’s why – Times of India

Amazon will no longer use Amitabh Bachchan’s voice as the company has confirmed the discontinuation of the celebrity voices feature for Alexa. The feature is going away globally and these celebrity voices are no longer available for purchase. Even Amazon will stop supporting them on Alexa-powered devices in the coming days.
Celebrity voices are going away
Amazon introduced the celebrity voices feature on Alexa devices to make things more interactive and interesting for users. The voices were available for purchase and the platform includes several celebrity voices from across the globe depending on the region. For instance, Alexa had Bachchan’s voice available for purchase at Rs 299. Similarly, the platform also included voices of Samuel L. Jackson, Shaquille O’Neal, and Melisssa McCarthy priced starting at $1.
No longer available for purchase
We tried purchasing the Bachchan voice on Alexa. However, the page now clearly mentions that “This skill is no longer available for purchase. Customers who previously purchased this experience will continue to have access for one year from the date of purchase.”
Similarly, other voice pages also have similar statements. In fact, Samuel L. Jackson’s page already says that users won’t be able to use the service after April 2023.

For those who are unaware, the celebrity voices feature allows users to listen to jokes, life stories, regular stories, etc in their favourite celebrity’s voice. Now, the service will no longer be available. Note that users who have purchased Bachchan’s voice will be able to use and interact with it for one year from the date of purchase.
Amazon first introduced celebrity voices in 2019 and came to India in 2020 and Bachchan became the first celebrity voice for Alexa in India.
