Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that after independence the curriculum of the country could not adequately reflect the works and philosophy of the great people of the nation.

Sarma tool part in the book discussion on Veer Savarkar- The man who could have prevented partition written by Uday Mahurkar and Chirayu Pandit at ITA Machkhowa.

Sarma said that Veer Savarkar was a great freedom fighter and patriot who rendered immense contribution to the freedom of India. The book throws untold facts on the great soul and helps the posterity to know about Veer Savarkar and his love for the motherland.

Chief Minister said Veer Savarkar had dreamt of a New India. He advocated equal dignity for everybody and opposed tooth and nail the partition of India. The Chief Minister said in order to expedite the development of the nation, one has to have love his or her country. A close look into the life and philosophy of Veer Savarkar gives an impression of his indelible love for the country and the countrymen.

Sarma also said, “There is an urgent need to make our younger generation aware of the culture and history of our country”. He also said that after independence the curriculum of the country could not adequately reflect the works and philosophy of the great people of the nation. The great men like Swami Vivekananda, Srimanta Sankardev, Lachit Borphukan should have been depicted adequately in the school curiculum. Srimanta Sankardev brought Indian culture to North East and acted as a bridge and protagonist of nationalism.
