‘A sneaker or a cool flat’: Inside entrepreneur Alyce Tran’s work wardrobe

0

Do you have a favourite fashion designer? My good friend Michael Lo Sordo: his clothes are timeless. Also, Céline and Prada; I try to look elevated every day and I know I can put on their pieces, even just a shirt and trousers, and feel pulled together.

What’s your fragrance of choice? I wear either “Portrait of a Lady” by Frédéric Malle or “Parisian Musc” by Matiere Premiere.

Any go-to jewellery? A rose-gold Cartier “Juste un Clou” bracelet and a “Panthère de Cartier” watch.

What was your first fashion moment? The dress for my year 11 formal. It was made by Adelaide couturier Alexis George. You’d go in, try on all the styles and they’d custom-make a dress for you in a specific colour. Mine was yellow with a long skirt, fishtail and tulle overlay. Gross!

And your worst fashion mistake? Wearing snap pants and Nike AirMax sneakers was not me.

What’s at the top of your wish list? A new Chanel handbag has been in the consideration phase for too long; it just needs to happen.

Is there anything you’d never wear? See-through clothes and cut-outs look amazing if you’ve got a rocking body; I wish I could pull them off.

Is there a current trend you like? I never thought I’d say this again, but cargo pants are looking good. Also, I’ve noticed that young people don’t wear really high heels any more; it’s a sneaker or a cool flat and I love that.

What shoes do you wear most often? Ballet flats from Miu Miu or Chanel. For events I’ll wear Bottega heels, a classic Saint Laurent mule or Jimmy Choos.

Who’s your favourite fashion icon? I love Lauren Santo Domingo’s classic, feminine style.

What do you wear on a typical working day? Even if I’m working from home, I like to get dressed up; it might be a dress and sandals, or a country-club tennis look.

What’s your favourite off-duty, casual Sunday look? Jeans, T-shirt, sneakers. The problem with my look and the type of clothes I wear is that I never look casual. My solution was to start wearing a cap. A Céline cap!

Alyce is the co-founder of lifestyle label In The Roundhouse.
