Android 12L arrives on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 series: Here’s what’s new – Times of India
A few weeks after introducing the Android 12L on the Galaxy Z Fold4, Samsung is now seeding the OneUI Android 12L-based OneUI 4.1.1 update to the Galaxy Tab S8 series, including the Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+ and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.
The OneUI 4.1.1 update is currently in South Korea and Europe. We expect the update to roll out in other regions soon. The update bumps up the Android security patch to August 2022.
The Android 12L-based OneUI 4.1.1 update brings the same features, focusing mainly on improving the multi-tasking experience, much like what we have previously seen on the Galaxy Z Fold4.
With the latest update, the taskbar from the Galaxy Z Fold4 makes its way to the Galaxy Tab S8 trio. Located at the bottom of the screen, the taskbar allows faster navigation between apps, or one can also drag-and-drop apps to open them in split-screen or pop-up mode. Further, there is also an option to pin pairs for frequently-used apps.
The update introduces a two-finger gesture to switch between fullscreen and split-screen view. OCR text scanning has also been improved, so users can now extract text from any picture, share it with other apps, or even translate it. Further, some improvements have been made to the Samsung Internet, keyboard and other apps.
Once updated to OneUI 4.1.1, one can set different caller backgrounds for different contacts. The search functionality in the My Files app has been improved, so the app shows text within any document or photo when searched in the app.
Samsung’s taskbar is expected to be available on last year’s Galaxy Z Fold3. However, we do not know when.
