What Google has to say to users who received the Android 12 update, and missed Android 13 for now – Times of India
Google recently started rolling out the Android 13 stable update to eligible Pixel smartphones, but some received an Android 12 update. Google says it was not a mistake, and the Android 12 update was pushed intentionally.
Why did Pixel users receive the Android 12 update instead of Android 13
As per Google, the Android 12 update was pushed out to some Pixel users running an older Android 12 and it was not a mistake. It is just that the rollout coincided with the Android 13 release, and the notification misled people into believing that the update was pushed mistakenly.
The statement obtained by Android Authority reads, “On August 15, Pixel devices running an old version of Android 12 received a notification about a previously released Android 12 update with bug fixes. The messaging in the notification was confusing with the timing of Android 13, and is currently being changed for clarity.”
The notification for the Android 12 update being pushed out read, “Introducing Android 12,” which made users think that they are mistakenly receiving Android 12 rather than being updated to Android 13. But that was not the case. Google says that it is changing the notification to avoid any further confusion.
In the coming days, you might receive an Android 12 update before you get the Android 13 on your Pixel. So, you need to install this update first, after which only you can update to Android 13. This update seems to be rolling out to mainly Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6A while some Pixel 4a and 5a might also receive the update.
