American Airlines, Gevo Sign SAF Deal | Business Travel News
American Airlines has signed an agreement with sustainable aviation fuel manufacturer Gevo in which it commits to purchase 100 million gallons of SAF per year for five years, with deliveries expected to begin in 2026, the companies announced Friday.
[Correction, July 26] A previous version of this report indicated American had committed to purchase 100,000 gallons of SAF per year; the correct figure is 100 million per year for five years.
The carrier is part of the Oneworld airline alliance, and this agreement falls under the deal signed by Gevo and Oneworld in March, in which member carriers planned to purchase SAF from Gevo.
The American Airlines agreement is valued at about $2.75 billion over the five-year term, according to Gevo, which added that the deal is the largest fuel-sales agreement ever entered into by the company. It also is the largest SAF commitment American has made, according to the carrier.
The agreement is subject to certain conditions, including Gevo developing, financing, constructing and operating one or more production facilities to produce the SAF noted in the deal, according to Gevo.
American is the latest Oneworld partner to enter into a SAF agreement with Gevo, following Japan Airlines, Finnair and Aer Lingus.
