AIIMS-Patna to start advance yoga therapy soon: Dr GK Pal – ET HealthWorld
A separate clinic with regular OPD service for this new branch is likely to be opened in a month for treatment of patients there. AIIMS-P is one of the largest of all AIIMSs and caters to the need of hundreds of patients of Bihar and adjoining states, he said.
Talking to this newspaper, Dr Pal said, “Yoga therapy is very helpful in curing diabetes, early stages of cardiac problem, asthma, intestinal disorders, arthritis, breathing difficulty and other health issues. It is a safe therapy with broader impact as many of the health problems have their genesis in our lifestyle and food habits.”
Another issue on which the AIIMS-P administration has started working on is appointment of faculty members and paramedics.
Dr Pal, who was the programme director of advance yoga centre at JIPMER, Pondicherry earlier, admitted that this premier institution has been battling with serious faculty crisis in discharging medical services up to the people’s expectations. He said only 136 faculty members were currently working there against the sanctioned strength of 305. It necessitated appointments against the remaining vacant seats of 169 doctors. The process has been initiated with a target to complete it by early August. Recruitment on vacant posts of paramedical staff will also be made soon, he said.
The new director further said that cancer cases were on the rise in the entire country, including Bihar, and the patients of the state had to go outside for speciliased treatment. Now, strengthening of the AIIMS-P departments would be of great help to people of Bihar in particular.
Medical research is another important field on which Dr Pal has urged his faculty members to work on. The institute will provide all help and facilities to the doctors for carrying out research on new technologies and methodologies of treatment. During Covid times, AIIMS-P faculty members had come out with many valuable medical research works, which had been published in national and international journals.
