Fully electric SUV Mahindra XUV400 spotted testing on Indian roads: launch, features, price

This however is not Mahindra’s first all-electric vehicle as the company earlier had launched the e20 and e20 Plus electric hatchbacks followed by the eVerito sedan. The XUV400 will cater to the growing inclination of the Indian buyer toward the high-riding SUV category of passenger vehicles. Notably, Mahindra is hosting its ‘Born Electric’ launch event on August 15th, where it is expected to unveil three electric SUVs. It is unclear whether the XUV400 will be a part of that lineup.

XUV400 design, specifications, price in India

The Mahindra XUV400 has been spotted testing on public roads ahead of its official unveiling. The vehicle will go on to become Mahindra’s first EV SUV for the Indian market. The XUV400 is based on an extended platform from the XUV300 sub-compact SUV. It will bring along design ideas from the eXUV300 showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The vehicle that was spotted was heavily camouflaged and not much was visible. However, the charging port flap on the front fender gives away the car’s electric car credentials. The car is expected to adopt blue highlights to distinguish itself from the ICE-powered car. The spied car also showed no dummy parts which indicates that the vehicle is late into the development stage.

The specifications of the new vehicle were announced two years back and at that time Mahindra had disclosed that the vehicle will come with two battery pack options – 350V and 380V. The smaller capacity battery will put the XUV400 up against the Nexon EV and the larger will go up against the like of the new Nexon EV MAX and the Hyundai Kona EV. The vehicle is expected to be 4.2 meters long and will get a motor with the peak power in tune of 150hp.

Prices are likely to start at around Rs 15 lakh mark and Mahindra will throw in goodies such as redesigned LED tail lamps, ADAS, better interiors and more to increase the vehicle’s value proposition.
