“The directive was issued in October. The new order a clarification on registered medical practitioners who provides direct medical care to patients at all specified times as per duty schedule,” said Bhopal CMHO Dr Prabhakar Tiwari. “As for consultants, there is no capping on number of visits,” he added.
Clarity on a consultant doctor, capped to maximum of three hospitals was awaited. Consultants of private hospitals will not be able to get his name written on his board or in the hospital. Furthermore, it is not clear whether to rule applies to doctors under directorate of medical education (DME) which administers medical colleges.
As per rules, one resident registered medical practitioner of the same system of medicine for which the Nursing Home is registered for every 20 patient bed strength or part thereof, to look after indoor patients. One additional medical practitioner for every 50 out patients or part thereof per day.
‘A Resident Registered Medical Practitioner shall be permitted to work in only one Nursing Home of the State, at a time. No part time engagements in any other Nursing Home shall be permissible. Any such engagement shall be a ground for cancellation of Registration and License. A Resident Registered Medical Practitioner shall physically be present in the Nursing Home and render his services for attending to in-patients at all times as specified in the duty schedule of the Nursing Home. The name, qualification and duty schedule of such Resident Registered Medical Practitioner shall be displayed at the registration area of the Nursing Home’.
