WhatsApp might have started rolling out a new stable version update for iOS that allows users to add up to 32 contacts in a group call. According to a new report, a screenshot of the app description has been shared by a tipster as the feature starts rolling out to users in select countries. The screenshot reads “Group calls now supports 32 participants and includes an updated interface with a social audio layout, speaker highlight and waveforms,”
Previously, the Meta-owned messaging platform allowed only eight participants in group calls across both Android and iOS. However, iOS users can now add up to four times more participants in group calls which is only possible in WhatsApp Groups.
WhatsApp has also updated how the call participants will be displayed on the screen to fit the increased number of members. Different WhatsApp users in the group call will be labelled using waveform images. The report claims that this feature is now available for iOS with a new version update 22.8.80 and has a size of 109.7MB.
However, it is important to note that this feature is not available for the desktop. This new feature can be a handy addition for WhatsApp users as it is already available on Telegram.
Apart from the new 32 members in a group call feature, the company has recently announced that it will release multiple new features including the Communities tab, emoji reactions, improved voice message bubble designs and information scores for groups and contacts. Another improvement that helps users to access their favourite media in the gallery has already been released in Brazil and will soon arrive in other regions.
The company is also testing a paid feature that will allow users to add multiple devices to a single account. Currently, Whatsapp doesn’t allow users to pair more than one smartphone to a single account, however, users can pair their accounts with a tablet, computer or laptop.
