‘I have a time frame for everything,’ says actor Sharad Kelkar
Operation Romeo is said to be based on true events. Please share details.
In this film what we have shown is how people get harassed by moral policing and how harmful that can be.
Have you ever faced something like that?
I was a lanky guy in my college days and I used to stammer. So, I never used to argue or defend myself. I remember an incident when in my third year I fought with my classmates as they wanted to rag the new set of students. I managed to save them.
How do you prepare for a particular role?
First, I read the script thoroughly and then meet the director to discuss about the role. So, when I reach the sets, I am well prepared. I don’t want to waste production time. I have been a producer and I know how these things matter.
How supportive are your parents?
They have never refrained me from doing anything. Whether it was the decision to become an actor or regarding my life partner, they have always given me the freedom to choose.
What kind of a dad are you in real life?
My daughter is only eight and we have been very good friends.
How has fatherhood changed you as a person?
I used to be impatient but fatherhood changed me. When you are a parent, you need to have lots of patience.
Would you like to venture into direction as well?
Not now. But I have a time frame for everything, which I actually make and follow.
How does your better half Keerti inspire you in life?
A lot. She is an actor too. I have learnt a lot from her. Whenever I hear a good narration, I narrate it to Keerti also and she remembers every detail of it. She is the first one to see my work and criticise me.
You did Hindi dubbing for Baahubali. After that we haven’t heard you in any other dubbed film. Why?
Working with a director like SS Rajamouli and lending my voice for a superstar like Prabhas was a huge thing for me. I have not charged money for that. But honestly, dubbing work pays so less that I feel bad for the dubbing artist.
Overall, are you content?
No. The day an artiste is content, his career is over. I am still hungry for more work, not only in different languages but in different countries as well. The struggle is to get the correct script and to find the right role.
