Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kuruthi to skip theatres, release on Amazon Prime on August 11
Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s upcoming Malayalam thriller Kuruthi will skip theatres and release directly on OTT platform Amazon Prime August 11, it was announced on Wednesday. The release was announced with a new poster.
The poster reveals a fierce Prithviraj Sukumaran along with an intense Roshan Mathew and the talented ensemble standing against a police van in the midst of a lush forest, setting the tone of the film.
This will be the second direct-OTT release for Prithviraj Sukumaran after Cold Case, which premiered on Amazon Prime last month.
Directed by Manu Warrier, the film has been bankrolled by Prithviraj’s wife Supriya Menon under the banner of Prithviraj Productions.
In April, the makers announced that Kuruthi will release in cinemas on May 13. However, the theatrical release plan has been scrapped due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The film’s plot is likely to explore socio-political themes.
Before Kuruthi, Manu made two short films and also assisted directors such as Anurag Kashyap and Owais Hussain. In 2015, he made his directorial debut with Coffee Bloom.
Prithviraj and Roshan have worked together in the past in Anjali Menon’s Koode.
Prithviraj is currently shooting for his upcoming second directorial project, Bro Daddy. Last month, Prithviraj took to Twitter to announce the project. This is his second collaboration with Mohanlal as a director. The duo had previously worked together in Malayalam action-drama Lucifer.

Prithviraj wrote: “My 2nd directorial. #BRODADDY will once again be headlined by The Lalettan @Mohanlal , with an ensemble cast including yours truly. Produced by #AntonyPerumbavoor (#AashirvadCinemas), a fun family drama that makes you smile, laugh & want to revisit. Rolling soon. Very soon (sic).”
Bro Daddy also stars Meena, Lalu Alex, Murali Gopy, Kaniha and Soubin Shahir among others.
It was recently revealed that Prithviraj will soon star in an epic project which will be shot entirely using virtual production filmmaking technique, the kind employed by films like Avatar and The Lion King.
