Juventus bring back Massimiliano Allegri as manager after Andrea Pirlo sacking

Juventus have reappointed Massimiliano Allegri as their new manager just hours after sacking Andrea Pirlo from the post on Friday, the Serie A champions confirmed. Pirlo lost his job after just one season in charge of the team.

Pirlo, a former Juventus player who had never coached at any level before taking over, was appointed to the post only last year after Maurizio Sarri was fired. Juventus won the Italian Cup and the Super Cup under Pirlo, but Inter Milan won the Serie A title.

The club also faltered in the Champions League, losing to Porto in the round of 16.

“Massimiliano Allegri is the Juventus coach once more.

“Allegri returns to a bench that he knows very well, a club that he loves and that loves him back, to begin today a new journey together, toward new goals,” Juventus said in a statement, excitedly repeating itself.

Allegri, who has reportedly signed a 3-year deal, won 5 successive Serie A titles during his first spell at Juventus between 2014 and 2019, as well as lifting the Coppa Italia four times and finishing as Champions League runners-up twice.

Pirlo on the other hand, coached Juventus for only one season, but the team’s 4th-place finish ended a run of 9 straight Serie A titles. The club did not say whose decision it was to go, but reports in Italy say the 42-year-old Pirlo was fired.

“For the courage, the dedication, the passion with which he demonstrated every day, our thanks go to the Maestro, the Coach and to Andrea, that really comes from the heart.

“Allegri finds a bench that he knows very well, a club that he loves and that loves him back, as today a new journey begins together, towards new goals.

“What he achieved in his first adventure at Juventus is engraved in the club’s history. And now we are ready to begin again with Allegri, to build our future together,” Juventus said in a statement.

talian media reported that Juve accelerated their interest in Allegri as other high-profile coaching roles became available around Europe, with Real Madrid and Inter Milan changing managers and Paris St Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino linked with an exit.
