Threads: Threads sees a drop in daily active users, time spent on the app – Times of India

After a flying start, Instagram’s Threads app is now staring at some harsh realities. According to a report by CNBC, Threads is seeing a drop in daily user numbers. Not just that but the time users are spending on the app is also on the decline.
Numbers go down for Threads
As per the report, data from Sensor Tower reveals that both active users and time spent was down. On July 11 and 12, the number of daily active users was down about 20% compared to July 9. The same goes for time spent for users as it was down from 20 minutes to10 minutes, indicating a 50% drop. “These early returns signal that despite the hoopla during its launch, it will still be an uphill climb for Threads to carve out space in most users’ social network routine,” Anthony Bartolacci, managing director, Sensor Tower told CNBC.
Another tracking firm reported a similar decline for Threads. SimilarWeb, a data analytics company, also said that the daily active users were down 25% for Threads in the last couple of days. The amount of time spent on Threads, as per the data, had also dropped from 20 minutes to 8 minutes.
The CNBC report quoted a Meta spokesperson who said that that it is still early days for the app. The spokesperson said, “While it’s early days, we’re excited about the initial success of Threads, which has surpassed our expectations. We launched the app just over a week ago, and our focus now is on ensuring stable performance, delivering new features and continuing to improve the experience in the coming months.”
Threads became the fastest growing app as it registered over 100 million users in the first five days of its launch. The real test, however, lies ahead and it remains to be seen if Threads does manage to retain user engagement.
