‘Nothing too branded’: How model Jessica Gomes nails a timeless look
Each week, we quiz a prominent person about their style and the inspiration behind it. Ahead, model Jessica Gomes.
How would you describe your style? Relaxed and effortless but also polished and with a touch of street.
What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe? A pair of vintage Levi’s from a brocante in France for €2. They’re the best shape and the denim is so soft.
And the most recent addition? The “Halo” miniature bag from A-Esque.
What’s your favourite fashion era? I love the 1990s; all the little singlet tops and baggy jeans, like Jennifer Lopez wore. And the hoop earrings, the make-up, Jennifer Aniston’s hair and the simple slip dresses. I love the movies and the music, too. I was a teenager in the ’90s; it was a fun time.
Who are your favourite designers? I love Christopher Esber’s vision and artistry, Michael Lo Sordo for the beautiful dresses that always make me feel sexy, and Camilla and Marc for wardrobe basics. I just bought some new Camilla and Marc pieces for travelling: tailored blazer, black cargo pant, black skivvy and black leather skirt; everything is minimal and everything goes together.
What would you wear …
… on a first date? An oversized blazer, black pant, bodysuit, a cowboy-heel boot and a statement earring.
… on a plane? I wear baggy Acne jeans with a tee, cashmere sweater and scarf, sneakers and thick socks.
… on the red carpet? A chic black dress. To a recent Cartier event I wore a long-sleeve YSL minidress, stockings and Christian Louboutin heels.
What are the three essential items in your wardrobe? My Acne jeans, white tees – I like Bassike, Lee Mathews and Éterne – and black Adidas “Samba” sneakers.
