Google: How Google is using AI to improve online shopping experience – Times of India
“When you try on clothes in a store, you can immediately tell if they’re right for you. And if they’re not, a sales associate can swap them out for pieces with different colours, styles or price points that better match what you’re looking for. Before you know it, you’re leaving with an outfit you love. You should feel just as confident shopping for clothes online,” the company said in the blog post.
Google Search virtual try-on tool: Availability
Shoppers in the US can now virtually try on women’s tops from brands across Google. These brands include Anthropologie, Everlane, H&M and LOFT. Users can tap on products with the “Try On” badge on Search and select the model that resonates most with them.
Google Search virtual try-on tool: What is it
Google says that apparel is one of the most-searched shopping categories. However, most online shoppers have agreed that it’s hard to know what clothes will look like on them before they buy them. 42% of online shoppers don’t feel represented by images of models while 59% feel dissatisfied with an item they shopped for online because it looked different on them than expected.
As per the company, the new virtual try-on tool on Google Search will help users to decide whether the dress is right for them before buying it. Virtual try-on for apparel will show users how clothes look on a variety of real models.
How will it work
Google’s new generative AI model can a clothing image and reflect how it would drape, fold, cling, stretch and form wrinkles and shadows on a diverse set of real models in various poses. The company claims that selected people ranging in sizes XXS to 4XL will represent different skin tones (using the Monk Skin Tone Scale as a guide), body shapes, ethnicities and hair types.
The company has also been working alongside Shopping Graph which is claimed to be the world’s most comprehensive data set of products and sellers. Google says that this technology can scale to more brands and items over time.
The company has also promised more options that will be coming to virtual try-on for apparel, including men’s tops launching later this year. Google also noted that it will add more ways of using advanced technology like AI to help improve the online shopping experience for users.
