MG calls Tata Tiago EV a ‘taxi’ after Comet EV is called a ‘cartoon’ in new marketing rivalry
Tata vs MG
The promotional campaign from Tata Motors which mocked the new MG Comet EV for its tiny size and quirky looks has now been faced with a rebuttal from MG India. Tata Motors first published an image promoting its Tata Tiago EV with a ‘cartoon’ recreation of the MG Comet EV in the backdrop. The image was also worded with the tagline “Own a car, not a cartoon”. MG’s marketing team then indulged in a witty comeback as they released a promotional image of the MG Comet EV and christened it to be “new age”. In its backdrop was a cartoonish representation of the Tata Tiago EV captioned as “ice age”. MG clearly calls the older Tata Tiago-based EV to be from the Ice Age or an era which it thinks to have gone by.
This was followed by a couple of other marketing images with anecdotes which attempted to call the Tata Tiago EV “old school” and even a “taxi”. MG is also trying to position the MG Comet EV as a cool new alternative to existing EVs and other ICE-powered city hatchbacks via this campaign.
MG Comet EV vs Tata Tiago: price in India
The MG Comet EV has been launched in India at an introductory price of Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be offered in a single trim level for now. The Tata Tiago EV, on the other hand, sits at a price range of Rs 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base XE trim and goes up to Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for top of the line XZ+ Tech Lux variant.
