Pathaan beats Dangal as the highest grossing film in Hindi, collects ₹729 crore worldwide
Shah Rukh Khan had beaten Aamir Khan in a crucial race of the blockbusters. His Pathaan has overtaken Aamir’s Dangal as the highest grossing film of all time, released in Hindi. It has collected ₹729 crore worldwide.
That being said, the overall worldwide collection of Dangal is still legions ahead at ₹2000 crore, thanks to the insane run it had at the Chinese box office in 2017. Pathaan has only beaten Dangal in the Hindi version race, considering Dangal released in Mandarin in China, which collected approximately ₹1200 crore.
Film trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted the fresh figures, as did the film’s producers, Yash Raj Films. A fresh poster with the latest collection spelled that worldwide, Pathaan has collected $88.92 million (approximately ₹730 crore). In India, it has collected ₹453 crore (gross) and overseas ₹276 crore (gross).
Ramesh Bala tweeted, “#Pathaan early estimates for 2nd Saturday All-India Nett is ₹ 22 Crs. Crossing #Dangal to become All-time No.1 Straight Hindi movie in India.”
Analyst Taran Adarsh also tweeted trends from bigger theatre chains on second Saturday. “#Pathaan at *national chains*… Week 2: Saturday… #PVR: 5 cr [Fri: 2.95 cr] #INOX: 3.75 cr [Fri: 2.16 cr] #Cinepolis 2 cr [Fri: 1.20 cr] Total: ₹ 10.75 cr [Fri: 6.31 cr] 70.36% growth at *national chains*.” He later updated the figure to ₹11.01 crore.
Pathaan is a spy actioner that follows Shah Rukh’s titular Indian intelligence agent, who resurfaces to thwart a terror attack planned by mercenary group Outfit X, led by Jim (John) on the Indian capital. The film also features Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles.
Pathaan is Shah Rukh’s first big screen release as a lead in four years. It is the fourth movie in producer Aditya Chopra’s spy universe, following Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai, and War, featuring Hrithik Roshan. Salman made a special appearance as Tiger in Pathaan.
