Apple may launch new HomePod soon: What to expect – Times of India
New HomePod: What it may bring
It has been more than four years since the ‘original’ HomePod was launched. Apple did launch the HomePod mini after that but the big-sized HomePod hasn’t seen a refresh. Also, Apple officially discontinued the original HomePod in 2021 and has been selling just the HomePod mini.
There have been rumours about Apple working on a HomePod for the last two years. In 2020, Gurman revealed that the HomePod could be a ‘mid-sized’ one — somewhere between the size of the HomePod mini and the HomePod.
Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo added credence to Gurman’s claims in May 2022. Kuo also said that Apple won’t be making too much innovation in terms of hardware design.
The HomePod came with a sleek and modern design, it is a small cylinder, measuring 6.8 inches high and 5.6 inches wide. It was launched in white and space gray colour options and had a mesh fabric body. The HomePod also featured advanced audio technology to deliver high-fidelity sound. It used a high-excursion woofer with a custom amplifier and a unique algorithm that analyses the music and adjusts the low frequencies in real time. The speaker also features an array of seven beam-forming tweeters, each with its own amplifier, which delivered a wide soundstage and consistent sound.
Rumours about Apple launching a HomePod with a display — on the lines of the Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub Max — have also been doing the rounds for a while. It was suggested that the HomePod with a display would come with an iPad attached to the speaker with the help of a robotic arm. However, that does seem a bit far-fetched at the moment. So it is quite possible that Apple may just add new features, shrink the size of the HomePod and launch the smart speaker with a similar design.
