WhatsApp is a popular instant messaging service that is used by more than 2 billion people across the world. The Meta-owned instant messaging app allows users to send messages and make video/voice calls to individuals as well as groups. Group chats have been an important feature on WhatsApp. Last month, the company updated this feature to allow more group participants and started allowing 1024 participants to join groups and sub-groups for WhatsApp Communities. Now, WhatsApp is adding another feature for group chats on Desktop users that will improve both convenience and experience.
The company is reportedly developing a new mute shortcut for group chats which is expected to be available in an upcoming update of WhatsApp Desktop beta. WhatsApp was also recently reportedly working on several other features for its PC client including an official chat which will be used to offer tips and announce new features by the company.

WhatsApp mute shortcut for group chats on Desktop: How will it work
The report has also shared a screenshot of the upcoming feature that shows that a mute shortcut will start appearing within the header of group chats. This feature will help WhatsApp users to disable notifications of messages received in the group while using the Desktop version of the messaging platform.

However, it is important to note that after increasing the group participant number, WhatsApp started testing the ability to automatically disable notifications for large groups with Android beta users. These new features hint that the messaging platform is trying to reduce the hassle of the several notifications that users receive from group chats every day.
