3 Pvt Hospitals Suspended From Pm-jay Scheme, Health News, ET HealthWorld

Surat: The empanelment of three private hospitals in the city under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojan (PM-JAY) scheme was suspended on Friday for indulging in financial and administrative irregularities. The inspection was held by the State Anti-Fraud Unit and Oriental Insurance Company Ltd jointly on January 9.

On finding irregularities empanelment of hospitals — Nilkanth Orthopedic Hospital, Dharmanandan Orthopedic Hospital and Param Hospital in Varachha area, under PM-JAY was suspended.

According to a government statement, the hospitals were found collecting money from the patients who were holding Ayushman Card and were entitled for treatment up to Rs 5 lakh for free.

At Nilkanth Orthopedic Hospital the inspection team found that money was demanded for treatment from an Ayushman Card holder who suffered a fracture in an accident. The patient was denied free treatment. At the hospital, the inspection team noticed insufficient medical staff as prescribed under the PM-JAY scheme.

At Dharmanandan Orthopedic Hospital, a separate elevator was not provided to patients as per the PM-JAY standards and patients were forced to use a common elevator.

While at Param Hospital, money was demanded for knee replacement revision treatment even when it is covered under the scheme. The inspection team found that the staff at the hospital did not have adequate knowledge about the treatments covered under the PM-JAY scheme.

“The action against the hospitals was taken by state and central government. Local health officials were not involved in the inspection,” said a city health official.
