2K celebrates Mafia 20th anniversary, offers the game for free on Steam – Times of India

Mafia’s new publisher 2K has announced an offer on Steam to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the title’s release. The publisher has also shared a tweet from its official Twitter account to reveal the offer. However, this is the original version of the game and not the Definitive Edition that was released by 2K in 2020.

According to a report by PCGamer, this version of the game has some problems losing music due to copyright issues. However, the report notes that the game is “well-served by its community,” and a detailed guide about it is available on Steam.

Mafia 20th anniversary offer: Availability
2K is offering the game for free on Steam from September 1 to September 5. The game is already available for free and will go back to its usual price on September 5.
Things to know about the original Mafia game
The original Mafia game was set in Illinois in the 1930s and was an early competitor of the Grand Theft Auto series and was later acquired by 2K. Players have to go through the story of Tommy Angelo as as he has to rise through the ranks of the Salieri mafia family. Moreover, in May, 2K also announced that a new Mafia game is under development which is expected to release in “a few years.”

As per a report by Outdoor Enthusiast Magazine UK, the new game is still in the early phase of development and will be using Unreal Engine 5 instead of the Mafia III engine. The report also mentions that the new game is being developed under the internal codename Nero and is expected to be a prequel to the Mafia trilogy.
