2 reasons why Apple hate tipsters and leak stories – Times of India

Apple doesn’t comment on rumours and leaks and usually keeps quiet before launching new devices like iPhones, iPads, Macs and others. However, if you notice recently, there’s very little ‘wow factor’ during Apple events as a lot of information is already out there in public. Apple, being a highly secretive company, hates this. And the iPhone maker is now taking the legal route to shut tipsters who leak specs, design and other details about an Apple product before it gets launched.
As per a report by Motherboard, Apple sent cease and desist notice to a Chinese citizen for leaking stolen prototypes of iPhones. The notice revealed as to why Apple doesn’t like unwanted attention to the details of future products. According to Apple, leak stories and tipsters tend to mislead accessories makers, mostly third-party brands that make covers and cases.
“Third-party accessory manufacturers may develop and sell mobile phone cases and other accessories that are not actually compatible with the unreleased products,” the report by Motherboard said.

Another reason as to why Apple doesn’t like leak stories is because it makes launch events boring. “Apple has made every effort to take strict measures to maintain confidentiality for any information about Apple’s products before their official release to ensure that every time Apple releases a new product, it can surprise the public,” Apple said in the cease and desist notice as per the report by Motherboard.
“The secret of Apple’s latest technological innovation is an important part of the company’s DNA…Such situations harm the interests of consumers and Apple. Therefore, it is obvious that when the unpublished information about the design and performance of Apple’s products is kept confidential, it has actual and potential commercial value,” Apple added.
Most of the leak stories are from early prototypes of iPhones and other devices that are allegedly sold by factory workers.
