16,000 nursing officer posts vacant: Odisha govt – ET HealthWorld
Cuttack: The health and family welfare department has informed the Orissa high court that 16,306 posts of nursing officers are lying vacant in the different government hospitals.
In an affidavit, commissioner-cum-secretary of the department, Shalini Pandit, however, said requisitions have been sent to the Odisha Subordinate Services Selection Commission (OSSSC) for recruitment of 7,483 nursing officers. “After submission of the recommendation list by OSSSC, government orders will be obtained for posting of the nursing officers,” Pandit said.
According to the affidavit, the sanctioned strength under the Odisha Nursing Services Cadre is 28,285 of whom 11,979 nursing officers are posted. The requisition for recruitment of nursing officers was sent to OSSSC on March 19.
The affidavit was filed in pursuance of the HC’s direction on a PIL seeking intervention for filing up all sanctioned posts of doctors, nursing officers, pharmacists, laboratory technicians and radiographers in government hospitalsm including medical colleges. The HC was hearing on Tuesday the petition filed by Chittaranjan Mohanty, a 72-year-old lawyer and social activist.
Pandit informed that requisitions have also been sent to the OSSSC for recruitment of 1,002 pharmacists, 921 laboratory technicians and 378 radiographers. Under the Odisha Pharmacist Services Cadre, Odisha Laboratory Technicians Services Cadre and Odisha Radiographers Services Cadre, the sanctioned strength was 3,490; 2,235 and 695 respectively. But pharmacists, lab technicians and radiographers in position were 2,492, 1,320 and 317 respectively, the affidavit said.
